May Day

May
1

May Day is traditionally celebrated as the beginning of summer. Being outside in the open air is a natural expression of summer freedom and has led to the tradition of Maypole dancing.

At Camphill Blair Drummond we take the opportunity to enjoy being outside, weather permitting. We hold ribbons attached to the May Pole and dance around it to celebrate the beginning of summertime.

To celebrate this day the whole Camphill community walks up a local hill. We support and encourage
each other to get to the top. When we are at the top we have a picnic before returning home.

Whitsun meaning ‘white Sunday’ celebrates the day the disciples were together and united in heart and mind. At Camphill Blair Drummond we celebrate by listening to readings in different languages, read by co-workers and staff. In the afternoon we prepare and share traditional foods from different countries, eating together as a whole community.
