Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of Lent – a period of fasting. Traditionally eggs and dairy products were given up for Lent and so leftovers had to be used up for pancakes the day before.
Today, pancake day is celebrated by making, tossing and eating pancakes. At Camphill Blair Drummond we watch and participate in pancake races, tossing our pancakes as we run. It’s great fun and we can enjoy a pancake at the end!
