Good Friday

Apr

good-friday1Good Friday is the day of the crucifixion and burial. At Camphill Blair Drummond we celebrate by planting seed potatoes in the earth which will grow and ‘bear fruit’ in early summer.

Hot cross buns are eaten  – a tradition which dates back to pre-Christian times. The bun signifies the first full moon of spring which always comes before Easter Sunday. The cross on top divides the moon into its four quarters.

At Camphill Blair Drummond each house receives a tray of unbaked buns so that all residents have a chance to make a cross on top. The bakery bakes the hot cross buns for afternoon tea.
