Michaelmas – Harvest meal

Sep
29

Harvest Festival or Michaelmas is the last day of the harvest season. Traditionally, fairs gave farm labourers and servants opportunities to offer their produce and services. Michaelmas signifies new beginnings and ‘taking up a new task’. For instance universities still begin their year around Michaelmas.

At Camphill Blair Drummond we celebrate with a Harvest Meal in the Gallery. Garden produce is displayed and simple food is prepared. After the meal we usually have a ceilidh in the library. We take time to thank people who support us throughout the year and celebrate new beginnings as new co-workers take up their posts.
